HISTORY. With just $3,000 and a bold vision, Noblitt, Frank H. Sparks, and Albert Redmond transformed a decommissioned grocery store into an ambitious enterprise. By 1923, the Arvin car heater became a best seller, especially since most cars were purchased without heat. The name "Arvin" came from Richard "Hood" Arvin, a traveling salesman who patented the original heater. The company grew rapidly and in 1929 Noblitt bought out Sparks' shares, moving the headquarters and most of the manufacturing facilities to Columbus, Indiana in 1931. It was there that they began producing car radios in 1933, and the following year home radios, soon becoming a point of reference in the sector. Arvin radios were synonymous with quality and reliability, so much so that they were also chosen by Sears to be sold under the Silvertone brand. Over the years, Arvin Industries continued to prosper, becoming a global giant in the automotive industry. Its historic headquarters at 17th & Central in Columbus, Indiana, became a symbol of innovation and progress. In 1950, the company changed its name to Arvin Industries, Inc., continuing its tradition of excellence and dedication to its products.
