THE HISTORY OF THE OBJECT. Akkord-Radio, a company based in Offenbach, has gained considerable fame for its high-quality portable radios, known as "Kofferradios". With production starting in 1948/49, it became an important figure in the world of radio devices. Akkord has the distinction of being one of the few manufacturers in Germany to focus almost exclusively on portable radios, often called "Offenbach". In 1950, the company made the switch to 90 mA D tubes, distinguishing itself as one of the first to do so. In 1953, Akkord introduced its first FM device, the "Offenbach U53". The 96 series of 1954 marked a further innovation, with the use of 25 mA battery valves, significantly reducing power consumption. Akkord-Reiseradios are known for their elegant exterior design, often with fine leather details or crocodile and snake simulations, suggesting a possible connection with Offenbach's leather industry. Despite growing competition, Akkord has continued to stand out through exceptional design and quality, without having to rely on a big advertising campaign. In the 1960s, the Jäger family gradually handed over their company shares to the Bosch Group. Despite subsequent decline, Akkord will remain an example of how a small family business can stand out in a competitive market.
